Picking my FAVORITE memorial day weekend is easy!
On May 29th of this year (a Saturday back in 1999), I will celebrate my 11th wedding anniversary with my husband.
That day, not only did I marry my high school sweetheart, the love of my life…but I also married the US Navy.
11 years later, multiple deployments, 5 moves, and 2 kids later, I don’t regret a thing!
God bless the military members out there fighting for our country, and God bless my husband, my own personal hero!
I met my husband, an Airmen in the USAF, in late April of 1998. We started seeing each other exclusively in late May just days before his 19th birthday (May 26th). We spent his birthday and the entire Memorial Weekend together. This time together was the start to many many years to come. Still serving strong as a member of our armed forces, I thank god everyday for keeping him safe.
We will never forget those who sacrificed their lives for the freedoms we so knowingly love!

For me, every memorial day is sobering and gets me thinking and remembering. The realization that there are soldiers that defend and protect at all costs… and that they do it by choice, (in our country at least!)
I dont take that for granted. Not for a second.
I have the utmost respect for all who have served in the military.
My grandpop was a POW in WW2. He never talked about it much, but now I wish I had asked him. I’ll have to wait until I see him in heaven!
This year I made it down to the Arlington National Cemetary to see his gravestone. Finally got to say goodbye. I miss him!
I remember a Memorial Day which was My brothers Birthday May 29 many years ago. We had a birthday party for him in the G.I. Joe theme and Army Man theme. I remember his dad asking him “Hey boy!, what do you want to be when you grow up?” Of course Adam replied “I WANT TO BE AN ARMY MAN, I’M GOING TO BE A G.I. JOE!” G.I. Joe was popular on T.V. at that time.
Now we look back and laugh because now he is living that life of being that Army Man.
I am so proud to have a brother who is serving in the Guard and enjoys his job also fulfilled his dream.
Well I havent hit the year mark just yet with my current boyfriend, but I have had lots of awesome monthly anniversary memories. My favorite: when he worked on a custom level in little big planet and had me play with him. When we reached the end he had “happy anniversary” flashing and “i love you” it was so cute

Memorial Day reminds me not only of the sacrifice of American men and women who have died while in military service, but also universally of all the human lives lost in combat. Every soldier, no matter what side he/she fought on or what country he/she called home, represents a mother who has lost her child, a family in mourning, a tear in the fabric of humanity. Memorial Day, for me, means remembering that human life is sacred and that the reality of war and its consequences calls us to create peace in our respective corners of the world.
